It’s Their Fault

One of the more annoying ways in which the Boomers have blamed us for the problems they have left us with is the whole “Perma-Parenting” concept. We’ve all read about somewhere or another: it’s a backhanded way that Boomers blame us for not making enough, not finding a career, etc. - they blame themselves for raising us wrong. There’s some truth to the “coddling” argument, but not enough: the fact is, they raised us, if anything, to be hyper achieving automatons: From “The Organization Kid” to recent articles about kids skipping lunch to take more classes. How is this evidence for us moving back in?

The fact is, we are graduating into a terrible job market and making less than ever. We have to move back in because that’s the kind of society our parents left us with. It’s perfectly indicative of Boomer attitudes to say they raised us wrong (it gives them agency while also deflecting blame)…but the fact is, they’ve simply left us with a society where many of us have to move in with them to work entry-level career jobs.
